The Paper and Cwarmé Museum
The Paper and Cwarmé Museum (carnival from Malmedy) are now both located in the Malmundarium, a former monastery that has been restored and transformed into a major tourist attraction. The National Paper Museum presents a didactic account of the various successive techniques of papermaking that have been tried and tested in the world from the 2nd century to the present day and also focuses on the succession of the various writing media that were the precursors of paper. A workshop for the manufacture of paper by vat welcomes our groups of visitors on prior request. A second museum illustrating the major event of the Malmedian folklore calendar - the carnival or, according to the local Walloon name, the "Cwarmê" - presents traditional disguises on dummies, photographic, sound and audio-visual documents, archives, posters and models of floats.
