La Hoëgne Valley

The Hoëgne is the main tributary of the river Vesdre. It originates on the Hautes-Fagnes plateau, near Baraque Michel. The Hoëgne valley is of remarkable botanical interest, not only due to the liverworts, mosses and ferns that can be found there, but also because of its floral richness.

The walking path running through this exceptionally rich site was created at the end of the 19th century and inaugurated by Queen Marie-Henriette. As you walk along it, discover the footbridge “Le Centenaire”, the part of the creek which has become a torrent as far as Belleheid and two waterfalls along the river bearing the names of King Leopold II and his wife... (marked out walkway number 55).
