Les Sources - Nature Park
The Les Sources Nature Park, the eleventh natural park in Wallonia, is located in the municipalities of Spa and Stoumont. It mainly consists of water and woodland.
What’s its origin and its peculiarity? A unique association of stakeholders! The initiators of this project are the public-private partnership, unique in Wallonia, between two municipalities, on the one hand the non-profit association "Domaine de Bérinzenne" (a structure active in the field of nature conservation) and on the other the Spadel Group (with the distributor of mineral water products Spa Monopole and Bru-Chevron in Stoumont).
Although the two municipalities have their own geological characteristics (more closed habitats on the spa side, huge open spaces in Stoumont) and despite their specificities and complimentarities, they share similarities in several respects. Water is present in all its forms: Groundwater, natural mineral water, thermal water, water from wetlands and surface water with a total length of 300 km. The element water characterises the park area and at the same time forms rare biotopes such as bogs, peat bogs and alder forests.
The area of the park is heavily wooded. In addition to being an important source of income, these natural sectors are of major ecological interest: they are home to exceptional fauna and flora, as well as some rare forest habitats threatened throughout Europe.
